Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsible for safely and efficiently performing maintenance, repairs, and services to heavy construction equipment to perform troubleshooting actions and diagnose defects; examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair or replace parts as required; service, repair, rebuild, overhaul and maintain the types of equipment, as well as major assemblies and components of that equipment including engines, transmission, fuel injection systems, hydraulics systems, ignition systems and electrical systems. The incumbent will be working closely with the Foreman, HE Inspector.

Job Description

• Under general direction and with little guidance, repairs and assesses malfunctions, rebuilds, and performs maintenance on heavy equipment common to construction and military operations.
• Performs direct and general support maintenance on diesel engines and generators (such as Solar, Cummins, Caterpillar, Onan, and GMC).
• Inspects, tests and operate wheeled and construction equipment, including scrapers, bulldozers, back-loaders, road graders, tractors, and lawn mowers to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
• Service equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, treats for corrosion, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assemble malfunctioning accessories and components.
• Remove, disassembles repairs, clean, treats for corrosion, assemblies and reinstalls components and accessories.
• Operates, cleans, inspects and services wheeled and other construction equipment for maintenance purposes.
• Maintains a safe, clean, sanitary, healthy, presentable, professional atmosphere, free of clutter, and trash in all working facilities and areas.
• Performs other work-related duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.

Required Academic Qualifications, Experience and Competencies• Must know about vehicles and equipment, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, regulations standards, and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
• Must know machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Familiar with the usage of computer-based technical manuals preferred.
• Must have the ability to troubleshoot, determine the causes of operating errors, and decide what to do about them.
• Thorough knowledge of the construction, design, assembly, and maintenance of a wide variety of special purpose heavy equipment.
• Considerable knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment.
• Considerable knowledge and a high degree of skill in diagnosis of trouble reported on the various pieces of equipment.
• Ability to keep records of repairs, time and parts used for the servicing of heavy, special purpose automotive equipment.
• Must speak, read, and understand the English language.
• Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with the following license codes (2, 3, and 8 or B, B1, D, BE, and CE or equivalent if not from Philippines), the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and operate heavy equipment vehicles.

• Completed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 609 MVAC Technician Certification is highly desired.
• Must have at least a high school diploma, technical or vocational course graduate is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ journeyman level experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair either on BSVE, WHE, MHE, and Ordinance Handling Equipment.
